March Update

Cheese!Wow March is already upon us. We want to apologize for neglecting to send out our normal Ullums Update last month. Our goal is to get out an Ullums Update every month, more if possible. Looking back on last year we barely kept up with that and we feel bad that maybe some of you probably don’t know what is going on with us here in Indonesia. Many of you are very faithful to pray for us and some of you share with us financially. “kemayanganam dumani aku’” is the tribal expression that best fits our feelings of support and love. That is how we would say, “thank you” to someone who had given something in abundance.

Ice Cream FaceThe end of February Noel (our NTM partner) and I traveled over land two days and a night to get into the village. The travel is by ferry and road both dirt and paved, but the condition of the roads is, in places equal to no roads at all. That makes for slow going. God continues to broaden our vision for this area we are living in. On this past trip we learned of other village areas that use the same language that we are learning. These are areas that we have not visited but hope to in the near future.

Because Abby has yet to been approved with a visa she should not leave the main town until that is fully processed. That is the reason the whole family hasn’t gone interior yet. I had a good time jumping back into relationships in the village. I also helped Noel to install his solar panel system on his house. We got other news that a big palm oil plantation will be moving into the area we are living in. As we see it, these kinds of changes can be a mixture of “blessing and cursing” for the local people. As always we need wisdom from God to sense His leading and by faith follow Him. SmileyKeeping in mind that God is, “taking from among the Gentiles a people for His name” helps us to rest in Him even when the odds seem stacked against us.

The 10th of March we celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary. It was a good time for us to sneak away together (with the help of some friends). We just had a few hours because of Abby’s feeding schedule, none the less it was refreshing for us both. This week we have some scheduled meetings with other area missionaries. This is a time for us to focus on the Lord and pray together.

We look again at the goals we have as an area and how God would have us move forward in these days of 2008. I will be sharing with the group on a few topics; one to help us see anew the language groups represented in the province of West Kalimantan and two, to refresh ourselves as we look at the bride of Christ, the Church.

Current prayer needs;

  1. Approval for Abby’s visa to live in Indonesia and approval for Dina’s application to enter America (when we are ready to travel home this year)
  2. Blessed time fellowshipping together this week as we meet with our co-workers here on the Island.
  3. The Lord’s wisdom as we pray about our future ministry and the needs of the people among whom we live.

After His Glory,

Tim & Andrea Ullum
