The Fields are White for Harvest

Dear Family and Friends,

John 4:35 (NASB95) 35 “Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.[1]

What a joy to see men of God stirred in their heart by the power of the Word. As we huddled around the fading light of a pressure lantern one night we opened to John’s gospel and considered Jesus’ example of compassionate evangelism even when weary(4:6). The men I was sharing together with have a sincere heart for the Lord and desire to shepherd the flock of God in their home area. They also are aware that around them in other villages are other sheep that Jesus is calling (John 10). As we see from John 4 Jesus had plenty of reasons why in that moment of being weary from His long journey He could have just lowered His eyes to the needs of the Samaritan woman; 1. Physically He was weary 2. Socially they were different gender 3. Politically they were “enemies” Jews and Samaritans 4. Reputation Jesus knew she was not living with her husband. All these reasons could form a strong case for why Jesus should ignore her but instead of lowering His eyes to her needs He lifted up His eyes and saw before Him, “fields…white for harvest”.
Thanks for your prayers for us as we were separated these past two weeks. I had the opportunity to visit several tribal areas as well as some missionary teams here on the island. My prayer was that there would be opportunity to encourage our missionary partners to press on in the ministry and also to connect with the churches in those areas. I also wanted to gather some more information regarding other least reached language groups here on the island. There are three language groups in particular that we, along with the tribal churches in the area have a burden to see hear the gospel in their own language. Pray with us that the Lord of the harvest would raise up laborers for His harvest here in Borneo.
October I will be making a trip to the opposite side of the island to again connect with the tribal church in that area as they are ordaining local leadership. This is an opportunity to stand with this church and to challenge them with the call of God to be a fully functioning body of believers. After that we are praying about returning to the Jelai river area for a few weeks. Keep praying with us for these people. Pray that we could see as Jesus did the white fields ready for harvest, despite all the circumstances that are stacked against us. Also that a door would be opened for us to proclaim the gospel.
Thanks for partnering with us and with the Bride of Christ here in Borneo Indonesia. There is no greater investment of resources and of your care than for the Bride of the Lamb.

After His Glory,

Tim & Andrea Ullum
